If you are taking a tetracyclines (eg, doxycycline) or fluoroquinolones (e.g., ciprofloxacin), take it at least 3 hours apart from Accupril. This product contains magnesium, which can interfere with absorption of these antibiotics. Store Accupril at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), in a tightly closed container. Protect from moisture, heat, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. These patients presented with abdominal pain (with or without nausea or vomiting); in some cases there was no prior history of facial angioedema and C-1 esterase levels were normal. Drug Class And MechanismThe best time to take Accupril is 1-2 hours before meals. It is also recommended that Accupril be taken on a regular basis to ensure the utmost benefit of the drug. Abrupt termination of Accupril medication may worsen your initial condition. Cessation of Accupril intake must be under a doctor's supervision. If you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to Accupril or similar drugs, such as captopril and enalapril maleate, you should not take this medication. Drug InteractionsThese drugs should be coadministered with caution and frequent monitoring of serum lithium levels is recommended. Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis have little effect on the elimination of quinapril and quinaprilat. Simultaneous administration of tetracycline with Accupril reduced the absorption of tetracycline by approximately 28% to 37%, possibly due to the high magnesium content in Accupril tablets. The most likely clinical manifestation would be symptoms attributable to severe hypotension. Laboratory determinations of serum levels of quinapril and its metabolites are not widely available, and such determinations have, in any event, no established role in the management of quinapril overdose. OverdosageIncreased serum lithium levels and symptoms of lithium toxicity have been reported in patients receiving concomitant lithium and ACE inhibitor therapy. No specific information is available on the treatment of overdosage with quinapril. No data are available to suggest physiological maneuvers (eg, maneuvers to change pH of the urine) that might accelerate elimination of quinapril and its metabolites. Doses of 1440 to 4280 mg/kg of quinapril cause significant lethality in mice and rats. Angiotensin II could presumably serve as a specific antagonist-antidote in the setting of quinapril overdose, but angiotensin II is essentially unavailable outside of scattered research facilities. |
