Any drug taken or used in excess can have serious consequences. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. It is not known whether Brethine appears in breast milk. ADULTS The usual tablet dose is 5 milligrams taken at approximately 6-hour intervals, 3 times per day during waking hours. If side effects are excessive, your doctor may reduce your dose to 2.5 milligrams, 3 times per day. Do not take more than 15 milligrams in a 24-hour period. The effects of Brethine during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. CHILDREN This medication is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. If Brethine is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered.

Possible Food And Drug Interactions When Taking Brethine

Signs of a Brethine overdose are the same as the side effects. Terbutaline is used to treat wheezing and shortness of breath from lung problems (e.g., asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchitis and emphysema). Controlling these symptoms can decrease time lost from work or school. Adults and children older than 15 should not take more than 15 milligrams daily. Children aged 12-15 should not take more than 7.5 milligrams daily. For children under 12, follow the doctor's directions for daily limits. Take this medication exactly as prescribed. Do not take more of this medication or take it more often than recommended by your doctor.

Recommended Dosage For Brethine

Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually 3 times daily or as directed by your doctor. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. US residents can call the US national poison hotline at 1-800-222-1222. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed regularly to monitor your progress or check for side effects. Consult your doctor for more details. Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed.

Special Information If You Are Pregnant Or Breastfeeding

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets. If you experience sudden wheezing, seek immediate medical attention. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat) severe dizziness trouble breathing This is not a complete list of possible side effects.

Brethine Side Effects

Your condition can cause complications in a medical emergency. Your healthcare professionals (e.g., doctor or pharmacist) may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first. Avoid taking MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within 2 weeks before or after treatment with this medication. In some cases a serious, possibly fatal drug interaction may occur.
